Polished concrete refers to concrete that has been treated through multiple grinding and polishing steps using specialized machinery. This process involves applying a concrete densifier or hardener, which penetrates the surface, chemically hardens it, and provides a dust-proof finish. We utilize a series of grinding phases with diamond polishing pads made of metal, hybrid, or resin materials, progressively moving to finer grits. Typically, polished concrete requires at least 6–8 grinding steps to achieve its finished look.
In the final step, we use a burnisher with a 1500 or 3000 grit pad to enhance the shine and add a layer of protection to the floor.
While concrete isn’t considered fully polished until it reaches an 800-grit finish, many projects are completed at 800, 1500, or 3000 grit levels depending on the desired appearance. For added customization, concrete polishing dyes can be used to introduce color, and additional techniques like scoring can create patterns, grids, borders, and other decorative designs.
